Home Learning Week starting 4th May

Good Morning and welcome to another week of online learning!

Hopefully you are getting used to completing the tasks online, with the help of your families. From this week I will updating the blog a couple of times a week (Monday and Wednesday), so that you will have 5 Maths and English tasks to complete a week.
As always, let me know in the comments section if you need to ask any questions and we can always discuss how this is going when I talk to you later in the week.

I hope you are all healthy and happy.
Miss you all,
Miss Drayton

Georges Marvellous Medicine\" Art Print - Quentin Blake | Art.com
This week we are going to base our lesson around our previous class book; 'George's Marvelous Medicine', where George created a medicine for his horrible grandma that made her grow so big her head shot up through the roof!

Monday

Find a glass/jar or anything that you could use as your 'cauldron'.
Then seek out 6 or more ingredients from the natural environment that could be added to the cauldron to make a spell. Before adding each ingredient to the pot, think about how the ingredient could be prepared and write down your ideas e.g.
  • Could it be sliced into tiny pieces, or crushed into a powder (using a stone or stick maybe)?
  • Do you need to say anything special as it is added (special magical words, perhaps), or should it simply be dropped from a great height?
When you have all your ingredients ready, get mixing! When your concoction is ready think about the purpose of your mix e.g. is it designed to turn frogs into princesses, or is it an invisibility potion?
Make sure you have made a list of your ingredients, how you prepared them and what you want your potential to do, you can do this in bullet points of make a list. Get an adult to check your spelling.  You will need this for later in the week.

Wednesday

Today you will need your notes from Monday's lesson and use it to write your instructions up.
Things to remember:

  • Write your instructions in the order that you did them.
  • Use time conjunctions; next, then, after, before...
  • How did you put each ingredient in? Did you sprinkle, measure or pour it in?
Here is an idea to help you;
This video will also give you some helpful hints https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2189sv8Bvy4

Thursday

Write out the sentences and put in the correct punctuation;
Now write your own sentences, using the picture, with each type of punctuation .!?

Maths

This week we will be having a recap on fractions:

Visit this website for this week's learning: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/

There are 5 lessons here so try and do 1 a day - they shouldn't take more than 30 minutes.
1) Watch the teaching video
2) Complete the activity sheet
3) Ask an adult or sibling to mark your work using the answer sheet

We have done something very similar in class, so this activity should be suitable for most children. (As always if your adult decides this activity is too tricky, use this website to look at the Year 1 ideas. It is important to keep up our Maths skills at this time, so recapping the previous Year is fine).

Keep using Mathletics, (I have set some new tasks on this) and Timestable Rockstars.

Geography

This week let's learn about Nigeria!

Watch the video and answer the questions.
(There are other countries you can discover if you want to learn more).

Science

This week we are going to look at food chains.
Watch the video above to learn all about what a food chain is. The try and put these animals in the right order, for a woodland food chain.

Challenge: Research your favourite animal and draw your own food chain with animals/food it eats and what it might be eaten by.
