Home learning week commencing 11th May

Hello Year 2. Welcome to another week of home learning.

I hope that you all completed last week's tasks without any problems and you enjoyed making your magic potions! It would be lovely to hear what ideas you came up with, the comment section was very quiet last week.😟
Like last week, I will be updating the blog a couple of times this week, with new learning, so that you have an English, Maths and Grammar/Phonics activity each day, as well as some other subjects to choose from throughout the week.
Please make sure that you are keeping up with your learning and letting me know if you don't understand or finding it tricky.

Missing you all,
Miss Drayton

English
Task - Create a diary for one of your toys.

Monday to Friday

Chose one of your toys e.g. a vehicle or figure, and take it on an adventure could be inside your house or you could take it outside, if you go on a walk.
The toy might:
  • dive for sunken treasure in the sink,
  • get buried in a mountain of pencil shavings,
  • take a wild ride on a skateboard,
  • find themselves buried in mud!
What adventure are you going to take your toy on today? Take your toy on a different adventure each day and write down what they did, if you can also take a picture/or draw one, it would be great to see some of these.
Make sure that you are writing a good amount each day, minimum of 6 lines. Make sure that you are including capital letters, punctuation and trying your best with your handwriting.

Grammar/Phonics

Monday

As well as the diary activity there will be a short grammar or phonics activity set each day to complete.

Adding adjectives to improve sentences;

Challenge: Now have a go at writing your own sentences with adjectives.

Tuesday

Chose a phase that is appropriate to you;

Wednesday

Choose some of the common exception words that you find tricky and practice them.
Ideas to do this;
  • You could get someone in your family to test you.
  • Play spelling tennis with a member of your family (pick a word and take it in turns to say each letter.
  • Cover the spelling and have a go at spelling it, then check if you are right.

Maths

This week we will be looking at measurement.

Visit this website for this week's learning: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/

There are 5 lessons here so try and do 1 a day - they shouldn't take more than 30 minutes.

1) Watch the teaching video
2) Complete the activity sheet
3) Ask an adult or sibling to mark your work using the answer sheet

This activity should be suitable for most children. (As always if your adult decides this activity is too tricky, use this website to look at the Year 1 ideas. It is important to keep up our Maths skills at this time, so recapping the previous Year is fine).

If you are not able to access this, please let me know. It is possible for me to print it out and leave it at school for you to collect if internet access is an issue. I am here to help in whatever way I can.
Keep using Mathletics, (I have set some new tasks on this) and Timestable Rockstars.

Science

This week, we will continue looking at animals.
Task 1

What are mammals; Look at the following clip and complete the quiz

Task 2
Using the information you have just learnt write the sentences and fill in the missing words from the word bank.

Task 3 - Challenge
Make a list or draw pictures of all the mammals that you can think of, check with an adult if you have got them right.
